pds. 2,3 and 6 - lesson 1-3 day 1 "How is solving an absolute value equation like solving a linear equation?" ...red pen corrected and discussed Practice page 37, turned IN, lesson 1-3 day 1 "How does solving an absolute value equation differ from solving a linear equation?", google slide discussion about absolute value and key patterns to know, note sheet 1-3 examples (expressions on back and one equation on the front) ... assign: p.30 #'s 1-8 ... study for quiz next class (lessons 1-1 and 1-2) ... keep books at home starting tomorrow

pd. 8 - lesson 2.2 day 1 "What are formulas and what are they used for?", we read textbook p.75 the first three paragraphs and the problem solving plan ... Mr R showed us several examples of choosing the correct formula for the type of problem we are working on, substituting the correct values into the formula and then simplifying to find the correct answer  (yes calcs!) ...note: we added the compound interest formula to the back of our formula sheet ... we went over the SAT Prep first 4 problems ... assign: pg. 80 #'s 12, 16, 26, 28, 42, 52, 66, 67, 72, 78  ... quiz in a few days

pd.7 - the first 5 minutes of class we worked on GMM review problems from lessons 1-1 and 1-2 ... we completed our note sheet from lesson 1-3, we discussed example questions that applied the use of Postulates 1-1 to 1-4 ... practice time ... assign: Practice 1-3 wksht ... GMM practice ... study for tomorrow's quiz (lessons 1-1 to 1-3)

pd. 8 - lesson 2.2 day 2 "What are formulas and what are they used for?"...class began with mini whiteboard exponent rules review challenge, Mr R passed back our quiz 1.5 ... we continued lesson 2.2 discussing "What use do formulas have?", we red pen corrected p. 80 #'s 12,16,26,... and turned IN for credit, we completed several problems on our whiteboards and talked about common mistakes that can be made that we want to avoid ...we discussed several more SAT Prep answers ... class time to begin today's practice assignment ...assign: p.81 #'s 14, 36, 60, 65, 70 and 74

pd. 8 - red pen corrected p.81 #'s 14, 36, 60, 65, 70 and 74, turned IN for credit ... we completed several challenge problems from pages 81 and 82 using mini whiteboards ... lesson 2.3 day #1 "How do we translate a verbal statement into an algebraic expression or an equation?", we completed several translation examples before we took notes, on notesheet 2-3 Mr R modeled how we use one variable for a missing value then reuse that variable to identify other values that are needed in the problem, we used those values to set up and solve an equation ... assign: p. 91 #'s 24, 26, 28 and 30 ... Schoology Quiz 2.2 (2 attempts allowed) , get the highest score you can, this counts as a quiz grade

pds. 2,3 and 6 - google slide discussion (how to write equations with variables and absolute value) ... discussed Practice 1-3 wksht #13 , we turned in that worksheet and p.30 #'s 1-8 for credit ... the remainder of the period we worked on an "Absolute Value Equation" Scavenger Hunt, during the summary we discussed common mistakes ... assign: study for Abs. Value Eq quiz ... chpt 1 test end of next week, stay tuned :-)

pds. 5 and 7 - Lesson 1-6 day 1 "How are perimeter and area related?", we played "Would you rather?", looked at google slides reviewing perimeter and area, we filled in the front of Notes 1-6 (perimeter), Mr R modeled how to find answers to several types of perimeter problems (labeling units correctly is important) ... we completed three separate GMM skills dealing with perimeter ... assign: GMM 15+ pts for the day ... chpt 1 test coming soon, maybe the end of next week

pds. 2,3 and 6 -  lesson 1-4 day 1 "How do we justify our solutions to compound inequalities?" , we discussed the difference in the words "and" and "or", "and" is the intersection of the solution sets of the compound inequalities where "or" means either or the union of the solution sets, Mr R modeled examples and cautioned us to remember what we do when multiplying or dividing by a negative...   quiz lesson 1-3  ...  time to begin practice assignment ... assign: Practice 1-4 day 1 wksht ... Chpt 1 test planned for the end of next week

pd. 8 - Lesson 2.3 day 2 "How do we translate a verbal statement into an algebraic expression or an equation?" , class began with several warm-up challenges where we had to define a variable and then use that variable to describe another element in the problem...we red pen corrected p. 91 and turned IN... we completed a Bank Comparison to figure out the Best Mortgage and then we completed a similar problem (book p.93 #49) ... time to start practice problems ... assign: p.91 #'s 22, 23, 27, 29, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, and 44 ... quiz on lessons 1.5, 2.2 and 2.3 soon
